CertLoc (previously known as Dial Before You Dig) certification demonstrates that utility location operators meet recognised training and competency requirements for underground service detection.
Gold Medal Services maintains CertLoc certification across our utility location team. Our certified operators use proven detection methods to identify underground services before excavation work begins.
Our certified operators locate underground services using electromagnetic detection equipment and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR):
The dual-method approach provides comprehensive coverage. Electromagnetic location detects metallic services, while GPR identifies non-metallic pipes, concrete structures, and utilities that electromagnetic methods miss.
Pre-Dig Planning: We review available service plans and site history to identify probable utility locations and gaps in existing documentation.
Certified Field Location: Our CertLoc-certified operators scan the designated area using electromagnetic location equipment and GPR technology.
Documentation and Reporting: You receive location reports with utility positions, depths, and confidence levels. Documentation includes operator certification details and methodology notes.
Our CertLoc-certified service combines two detection methods:
Electromagnetic Location: Detects metallic utilities (electrical, telecommunications, metal water/gas pipes) by tracing electromagnetic signals. Works for services carrying current or that can be energised with a signal transmitter.
Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR): Detects all subsurface materials regardless of composition. Locates non-metallic pipes, concrete structures, voids, and utilities that electromagnetic methods miss. Scans up to 8 metres deep with 1-5cm positioning accuracy.
The combination provides complete subsurface coverage. Utilities that one method misses, the other detects.
CertLoc certification is valuable for projects where documented utility location matters:
We’ve provided certified utility location services across Defence facilities, commercial developments, municipal infrastructure, and industrial sites throughout the NT.
Our operators maintain current CertLoc certification with ongoing training. Every location service follows recognised detection and reporting methods.
We combine electromagnetic location with Ground Penetrating Radar for complete coverage. No single-method blind spots that leave utilities undetected.
Certified location integrates with our NDD hydroexcavation, CCTV inspection and hydraulic design services. One contractor coordinates utility location through to excavation completion.
Detailed reports with certification details, detection methodology, confidence levels, and annotated site plans.
